I’m moving to a new blog! Come follow me. :)
More than 5 years ago, I started this blog just so I could leave comments on my friends’ xanga accounts. I really had no plans to start blogging myself, or doing much of anything else with my site. Most of all, I had no intentions of making friends in the online community. Meeting strangers on teh internets?! Heavens no!
But good thing nothing went according to plan. Because of Xanga, my life has become richer. I’ve made a lot of wonderful friends both around the Bay Area and around the world. I have hung out with many of you during my travels, from Canada to New York to Texas to even the UK and France and everywhere in between, and some of you have visited. Because of Xanga, I found my passion, which opened up a whole other world to me, a world I hope to continue sharing through my blog.
Some of you have been following my xanga since the beginning: from the time I was just an engineering student, to my discovery that photography could just well be the best hobby ever, to my switch over to a business program 1 year from graduation, to my time working in the biotech industry, to my struggle over whether to live the average Silicon Valley life, or to pursue a dream so crazy that it would set my life down a path I would never have imagined. To you guys, and to those who joined along the way, I owe my deepest gratitude. It’s been said many times before, but it bears repeating: There really is NO WAY I would have ended up where I am today if it were not for your support and encouragement and words of advice.Life is about change and growth, and as I’m soon entering my 27th year on this earth (ack!) and my 2nd year since quitting my day job to pursue this full time, one of the things that I finally had to change was Xanga. Yes, yes, this is probably a tad bit overly sentimental about a blog. But more than 5 years of my lifejourney are in these pages! That’s an eternity in internet-time!! lol
Anyway, I hope you guys continue to follow me on my new blog. Check it out! www.junshien.com. Update your RSS feed readers, and if you would like to receive email subscriptions, you can do that here.
much love!

I just wanted to say that this entry has actually given me a little bit of hope–which is probably not what you were going for in your good bye entry to xanga. A lot of people that I come across don’t even think about living their life pursuing something that makes them as happy as photography seems to make you. It’s a risk and..I think it’s scary to everyone…including myself. A lot of people choose to stick to the safe path –I guess what could have been described by you as “the average silicon valley life.” In this entry you said your dream was crazy–but you went after it anyways. And I have to honestly say I admire that and that it gives me hope that all is not lost when someone decides to actually do something as “silly” as pursueing a dream. I’ve been called a dreamer one too many times and recently I was begining to wonder if 10 years down the line–would I like who I turned out to be? Would I still have the ability to dream or would I be a “serious adult who worked, came home, and then went back to work”. So I just wanted to thank you for saying those exact words and to also let you know that I think your work is great. I always enjoy looking at your photos. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours and I hope that you keep pursueing all of your dreams especially if they seem crazy!
you’ll come back to xanga..
long live xanga…im moving too woohoo but my heart is always with xanga =)
aww! i know this isn’t a goodbye (its more like..see you elsewhere?) but i’m sad you’re leaving xanga. others may be attracted to your unique eye and captive photographic skills and memorable images, but i have always enjoyed reading your writing: about your pursuit for your passion, about the sacrifices you made, about the God whom you love. you’re right – you have been through a crazy journey of life that you’ve docuemtned on xanga (as have I)- and i’m thankful you shared with us fellow xangans all the blessings and experiences God has brought you through. (He is a good God indeed!)
as you move onto a new blog..and also, move onto bigger things within your career, may God bless you immensely !
(this isn’t the last of me, but alas, i don’t comment much outside xanga)
(p.s. the MINI depicts my initial reaction to your post. =P)
aaw, i’ll miss you on xanga, but i’ll follow you to your new blog because i enjoy your work and i hope to meet you in real life someday.
I will follow u…follow ur growth and change…follow ur art works
awww.. i’m the same as Soapie up there.. I don’t comment much outside xanga, and i have no idea how to subscribe the same way as xanga in other blogs (ie. blogspot..)
Can’t you feed an automatic RSS here, so that we can still read your blogs through xanga even if you didn’t write it here?
If not, i’ve already subscribed to your RSS via email…
@IpowerhouseI - Hello and thank you for sharing! I’m glad that my little entry has given you hope. Pursuing a dream alone is not enough. It requires from us a lot of hard work, a lot of sacrifice, and often times, the very real risk of losing it all. But after doing this for the last few years, having tasted the freedom and joy and satisfaction of pursuing the extraordinary life, I never want to go back. We only get one shot on this earth. How sad it is if we only end up living an “okay life”! Dream big, and don’t give up!
@xxo_ABC123_oxx - haha…
But … thank you for subscribing via email! Appreciate the support.
@Soapie - Thank you, Sophia! Really appreciate your friendship over the years, and the opportunity you gave me to shoot your wedding. And yes, even though I’m leaving xanga (sniff), I’m going to still keep reading your posts!
@ana_bomber - @iris_ho - Thank you!
@yan_ni - I’ll put up teaser posts leading to my new blog for the next few weeks, but probably not for long after that. And unfortunately, I can’t set up an RSS feed into xanga.
I will definately follow and subscribe. You are such a great photographer!
