  • photoshoot with Christina

We were originally only going to take about 2 hours for the shoot, but we got in a groove and just kept on going for hours until we were forced to stop at sunset. Christina was incredibly easy and fun to work with, and even though the shoot was completely free-flowing, we still managed to pick out amazing lighting conditions at all our locations.

Before we started, I forgot to warn Christina that I often make my subjects work hard for their pictures. Which was unfortunate, because for our first location, we found a grimy storage shed and I had her climb up a 15 foot structure and get on top of truck tires and giant pipes. Five minutes into our shoot, and her clothes were already dirty! And then after she changed and cleaned up, the next location we stopped at just happened to be by the roadside where I had her sit in the middle of a patch of tall weeds!

Later on in the day, we were sneaking around an apartment complex when we saw a boutique motel with a beautiful blue door in the back. We figured we’ll try to take pictures there without getting chased away by the workers. But about two seconds later, this guy walks out and before we could ninja away, he asks us why we were in the courtyard. Turns out he owns the place, and he kindly invited us to use the lobby area if we wanted. Unfortunately, I didn’t really get any good shots there because I didn’t want to stay too long and bother the guests who were using the place. It was all great fun though!

Enjoy this set. Let me know what you think!

  • Takumi baby portraits

Introducing one year old Takumi …  He. is. so. freaking. cute. !!! If I had to list out the best ways to spend a morning, doing a baby portrait session would rank pretty high up there!

Yup, he and his dad had matching outfits!

Is it even possible to look at this picture and not want to smile??? =D

    Reading with mom. Precious.

    Yea, I’m just chillin here…

  • These are the kinds of nightmares I have …

No joke. I just woke up from one: I am doing an engagement session with a couple, and she’s one foot taller than him. As I’m setting up the scene in front of a run-down shed in some backlot and having my assistant bring me a chair because the girl is also taller than me, they suddenly start making out!
She is bent wayyy down to kiss him, and then they start REALLY go at it and making all sorts of noises too! It is disturbing because now the girl is beginning to look like a guy and I can’t tell who was who! Then in some weird time lapse, we are suddenly finished with the shoot after only a few minutes and they start leaving–he’s a pilot and he has to go to the airport to fly his plane. As they leave, they smile at me saying, “We can’t wait to see the pictures!!! We know they’re going to be wonderful!!!”

    >.<

  • I hate clichés

For example: the beach, the Golden Gate Bridge, and textures.

But sometimes, you throw it all together, add in a bit of the whimsical, take a step back and realize … Hmm, I DO like this!

And speaking of clichés, today I’m playing tour guide and taking my cousin to visit San Francisco since he’s here on a business trip. We’re going to check out the Golden Gate Bridge for a bit, hit up Pier 39 for Clam Chowder, possibly stop at Union Square, drop by Chinatown, and then grab some burgers for dinner. Do you think we should take a cable car ride while we’re at it? =P

What’s one cliché that you love to hate?

  • Shirley and Sam’s wedding

    Napa, CA

Introducing (for the second time) Shirley and Sam! They’re definitely one of the most giving and warm-hearted couples I know, and over the past year, it’s been such a blessing getting to know them and counting them among my friends.

Their beautiful wedding at the Vintage Estate in Napa Valley was in so many ways a reflection of who they are as a couple. As much as it was *their* day, they unmistakably wanted it to be a fun time and a blessing for all their friends and family. Tremendous amount of attention had been poured into all the minute details, and their personal touches were evident in little and big things throughout the wedding day.

This wedding was shot by The Scott Robert (TM) and me. The images you see were taken by the both of us, art direction is mostly his work, and all the post-production was done by me.

    Isn’t she pretty? :)

Shirley protested doing this pose. But Scott can bring out teh sexy in any bride!

I think we have a CK ad right here…

An actual hot sauce packet from Taco Bell the week before. It must have been a sign!

Scott captured this gorgeous picture of one of the flower girls. I absolutely love it!

    And now, all together: Awwww….

You can just see the emotion on her dad’s face, with mom smiling in the background…

This image above almost didn’t happen. While Scott was doing the formal group portraits, I was walking around when I saw this picture in my head. We still had a few more groups to go, but the sun had just set and we were losing light very fast. So … finish up with the formal shots, or pause everything to try out some random idea I had in my head? We went with the latter. :)

Beautiful posing and shooting here by Scott.

This series was actually Sam’s idea. I love it when my couples suggest stuff like this. =D
